CANDLE MEDITATION FOR SPIRIT COMMUNICATION

Choose a place in your home that is comfortable and a time when you will have a minimum of half an hour without any interruptions or obligations. Wear loose-fitting, nonrestrictive clothes.

Light your candle. This may be a memorial candle or a tealight. If you have created or purchased a spell candle for spirit communication, use that.

Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Breathe deeply, counting each exhale until you get to 10. When you are first beginning this practice, you may find a stray thought or two—or eight—invading this space. The idea is not to fret over it. Instead, acknowledge it and let it go.

After the tenth exhalation, open your eyes. Begin to unlock this gift by staring at the base of the candle flame. Take slow breaths, and bring a memory of the person you are seeking to contact into your mind’s eye. If you are not able to visualize this, imagine the feeling of giving that person a hug or the sound of their voice. Speak their full name, followed by what you called them if you had a nickname or diminutive for them. Say, “I love you.” Repeat their full name and nickname, and say, “I call to you.” Repeat their full name and nickname, and say, “I welcome you.” Continue to breathe slowly and deliberately, and open your mind and senses to any ideas, visions, or messages that come through. Messages can come in many forms; you may hear the laugh or smell the cologne of a loved one. It may take three to five minutes to feel a connection. If you’re still waiting, repeat the words aloud and “listen” again with all of your senses.

If you wish to dream about your loved one, the best time to do this meditation is right before bed. Just be sure to snuff out the candle before falling asleep.
